Fossil Manatee Ear Bone - Tympanic Bulla, Pleistocene Florida (EDI-68)
Couldn't load pickup availability
Genuine fossil manatee inner ear bone — a tympanic bulla (auditory bulla), personally found by me scuba diving in a Florida river.
The tympanic bulla is one of the densest bones in a manatee's body — it housed the animal's hearing apparatus, and its extreme density is exactly why it survives fossilization so beautifully while lighter bones crumble. Holding one, you can feel how solid it is.
This is a fantastic conversation piece: most people have never seen — let alone held — an Ice Age sea cow's ear bone. A must for the marine mammal collector or the curio cabinet.
