Fossil Manatee Ear Bone - Tympanic Bulla, Pleistocene Florida (EDI-69)
Couldn't load pickup availability
Genuine fossil manatee inner ear bone — a tympanic bulla (auditory bulla), personally found by me scuba diving in a Florida river.
The tympanic bulla is one of the densest bones in a manatee's body — it housed the animal's hearing apparatus, and its extreme density is exactly why it survives fossilization so beautifully while lighter bones crumble.
Honest condition notes: this one is a bit rougher and less refined than our other bulla (EDI-68) — priced accordingly. Still a fantastic, affordable piece of Ice Age marine mammal anatomy for the collection or curio cabinet.
